In spring 2021, a group of diverse artists came together to work with Mecklenburg County to transform an underutilized county building into the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Located on N. Tryon Street, the VAPA Center is a mecca for arts and live entertainment in the heart of downtown Charlotte featuring 5 galleries, 2-3 theaters, rehearsal space, practice space, and art studios for individual artists.

VAPA’s mission is to cultivate accessible exhibition and creative workspaces to inspire and to nurture the relationship between artists and the community.

Tiani Reid

Front Desk Receptionist

I started working for the VAPA Center in October 2025 as a Front Desk Receptionist. Working here has been enjoyable, and pushes me out of my comfort zones; allowing me to speak to all sorts of people, and interact with the tenants/creatives who have studios here. It is wonderful to speak to other artists who work in fields that I am interested in, and to hear their stories.

A graduated from University of North Carolina Asheville December 2023, with my degree in Bachelor of Arts, I majored in New Media, and I am currently working towards my Adobe Graphic Designer: Design that Demands Attention Professional Certificate. Everyone who comes here and discovers VAPA Center has a memory they will never forget, so enjoy!
